Whenever a 18-year-old creates Real Madrid history in a crucial European match against City, it naturally attracts praise and attention.
During his maiden start in the tournament - and fifth appearance for the team - the young midfielder made a strong impression as the fifteen-time European champions claimed a 3-0 round of 16 first leg advantage at the Bernabeu.
The teenager, who also had his Real debut in the qualifying round a few weeks prior with a cameo off the bench at Benfica, then helped the Madrid side defeat the English Premier League side in the midweek return to secure a last eight berth.
At 18 years and 226 days, Pitarch became the club's most youthful starter to start twice in the Champions League's latter rounds, beating star Vini Jr's record by 10 days.
This talent is the most recent to come through from the club's academy and is rapidly cementing himself as one of Alvaro Arbeloa's most exciting young players.
He signed for Real from CD Leganes in 2023, having formerly spent time at Atletico Madrid and Getafe youth teams, and initially featuring for the under-19 side, where he quickly made a strong impression.
Pitarch progressed to the reserve side and it was during a friendly match in which they played against the senior squad, then managed by Arbeloa, where the teenager is said to have caught the attention of the present manager, who took over from Xabi Alonso in January.
Reports would later describe the moment as "an instant connection," adding Pitarch excelled not only for his skill on the ball, but for the energy, personality and drive he brought to the team.
During the pre-season of 2025, ex-manager Alonso called up Pitarch to train with the senior squad and awarded him minutes in pre-season.
Yet, it was the change in manager that became the defining moment in his career as he was introduced as a second-half replacement in each leg against Benfica that led to the clash with Pep Guardiola's team.
"I have dreamed of this every night when sleeping, the first day I began playing the game, every day you head to training and every day you play a match," stated Pitarch after his debut.
"I've just achieved my dream with the greatest club in the planet and in the top tournament."
Handed a starting debut in La Liga against his former club - where he spent several seasons after arriving from Atletico in 2018 - he has retained his place for the next four as fitness issues to Jude Bellingham and Dani Ceballos created an opening.
The teenager has seized it with performances that have belied his youth and experience.
"He's a extremely fast footballer, and you can observe what he's capable of," said Arbeloa. "He's extremely dynamic, with excellent endurance, effort and movement."
Pitarch's mentality has also stood out to his manager.
"His standout trait is his character," continued he. "He always wants the ball, and when pressed, he remains unfazed.
"I understand fans might be surprised to see him start in a European fixture, but he's playing because I had total confidence in him to do what he usually does.
"He will keep receiving opportunities with the first team. It's a pleasure to coach a talent like him."
Born in a Madrid suburb, in the Spanish capital's community, and grew up fully immersed in Spanish football, progressing through local academies before entering Real Madrid's renowned youth academy.
He holds dual Moroccan and Spanish citizenship, offering him the option to represent both nations at the highest level.
Under international regulations, players may appear for multiple nations at youth level without being permanently tied, with the final decision only final once they appear in a official senior international match.
He has played for the Spanish national team at youth level, representing both the U19 and under-20 sides, and took part in the 2025 Fifa Under-20 World Cup, where Spain made it to the last eight.
Despite this, he has yet to commit to any full national side, who are monitoring his progress with keen attention.
Speaking recently, Pitarch said: "I haven't made my ultimate choice so far. Things are great with the Spanish federation, but I'll make a conclusion in the near future."
His situation mirrors that of other dual nationality players such as Real team-mate Diaz and Barca star Yamal. While teenage Yamal chose Spain, Diaz opted to represent the Atlas Lions.
For now, Pitarch's focus is on making his mark in the Madrid lineup and rewarding Arbeloa's faith.
He played over an hour in the two-one win at the Etihad, which completed a 5-1 aggregate success and a last-eight tie with Bayern Munich.
He was replaced by fellow youth graduate in Manuel Angel to emphasise Arbeloa's trust in the next generation to help the club pursue trophies to come.
After his impressive impact so far on European football's biggest stage, Pitarch is expected to play a key role in that.
"Arbeloa handles me the same. We deal with it very normally. I try not to think about it too much - I have to deserve my minutes on the field," he commented after the success at Manchester.
