Britain's leading artificial intelligence institute has revealed a new mission to help defend the nation from online assaults targeting vital networks including power, transportation and public services.
The UK's premier AI research center will implement a programme of science and innovation specifically created to protect the UK from hostile threats, according to a latest statement.
This new direction follows significant changes at the publicly-funded organization, including the resignation of its former chief executive last month after both workforce dissatisfaction and government pressure for major restructuring.
The fresh initiative comes amid growing concern about the nation's susceptibility to online disruptions and digital assaults.
Recent events have highlighted these vulnerabilities, including a widespread failure affecting global cloud computing and recent cyber-attacks that disrupted production at significant plants and supply chains across various businesses.
