Ukrainian authorities have declared the commencement of large-scale manufacturing for an innovative locally engineered interceptor drone to enhance its aerial protection systems. Three initial producers have begun manufacturing, with 11 more getting ready to establish production lines, the defence ministry announced this past Friday.
These UAVs will be based on a domestically developed system known as “Octopus” designed to neutralize Iranian-made drones. The system underwent testing in actual battle and demonstrated successful “at night, amid electronic warfare and flying low,” the ministry stated. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy established an ambitious goal of producing as many as 1,000 interceptors daily.
The Ukrainian president characterized Russia’s latest attack against Ukraine as “intentional, premeditated and brutal” after six individuals were killed and dozens injured in a series of nocturnal attacks across Kyiv. Alert systems sounded in the capital shortly after 12 AM this past Friday, with enemy UAVs quickly detected overhead and intensive defensive fire from Ukraine's aerial protection units.
The president reported the country was hit by hundreds of UAVs and multiple missiles. Those killed had been at home in a block of flats on the capital's left bank when it was hit. Dozens of additional structures sustained damage, including the diplomatic mission of Azerbaijan.
Azerbaijan said it delivered a formal objection to the Russian ambassador this past Friday after the embassy damage. An explosion from a Moscow's missile demolished part of the compound's boundary wall and caused serious damage to the embassy grounds, officials from Baku reported. Moscow's military have been launching hundreds of aerial bombs daily, with the previous month's average daily usage standing at approximately 170, based on official military statistics.
Moscow's Black Sea port of Novorossiysk halted for a period oil exports on Friday – representing 2% of global supply – after a Ukrainian missile and drone attack. Ukraine’s general staff said its forces had fired domestically produced missiles and used multiple kinds of attack UAVs in the assault against Novorossiysk “as part of efforts to reduce the strategic capabilities of the invading force.”
Ukraine separately struck an oil refinery in Russia’s Saratov region and an energy depot in the adjacent Engels region overnight.
Russia’s second-largest energy company Lukoil said on Friday it has been in talks with interested parties regarding its foreign assets following recent sanctions from the UK and the US and the collapse of a deal with commodity trader Gunvor. “Final arrangements are to be disclosed after conclusive negotiations have been reached and required authorizations have been obtained,” the company commented.
The Ukrainian leader is scheduled to travel to the city of Madrid, Madrid, on Tuesday to meet with parliament members a day after his trip to France, Spanish parliamentary officials announced. The Ukrainian president would meet representatives from both chambers of the legislature during his visit, the Spanish statement confirmed.
