The Red Devils Poised to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with half a year remaining on her contract, has been a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League team.

Her exit from Munich was expected after she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the club's supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top strikers. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.

Consistent Goalscoring to Boost United's Attack

The experienced striker's signing should represent a significant uplift to the team's forward line. She has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Steam at Old Trafford

The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when United appear to be building positive momentum.

Recent performances feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought further business:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having joined from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
