The Latest Relaxed Game Mode Ignites Intense Discussions Over AI Players, XP Rewards, and Queue Times

Over the weekend, the game developers introduced a fresh playlist titled Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode mirrors the regular Breakthrough setup but includes a few notable changes:

  • Every squad includes just eight real players, with the rest filled by AI-controlled opponents.
  • Activities performed by real players award complete experience points, while bot actions offer lower rewards.
  • Just a pair of maps are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
  • Features like Dogtags, accolades, and career stat updates are disabled.

So essentially, this mode delivers on its title: it offers a laid-back version of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume it's a good idea, since it provides additional choices for players seeking different ways to have fun with the title. But, if video games have taught us anything, it is that you can't please everyone. In other words, a lot of BF6 fans are upset.

Player Responses: Anger to Praise

"People want real players. Avoid making the mistakes of your competitors," states a response to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing concept," says a different user. Meanwhile, in community forums, a player remarks, "I have no idea where we are going with this title," and another lists everything they consider to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We don't need this bot mode."

On the other hand, amid the criticism, some gamers sharing how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to warm up, human participants keep it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," says a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are players who actually go outside and don't play this title all the time. Allow them to strike a balance," adds another. One reply via social media clarifies that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is perfect for me," while someone else praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Valid Criticisms and Community Feedback

Despite the support, there are constructive reasons to complain about the new mode. Some users have highlighted that it will make wait times more extended for other modes because of the large amount of playlists currently available. Similarly, certain regions already encounter mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a required amount of real players, despite it focuses mostly on combat against bots.

Lastly, a major grievances is that a previous feature was meant to offer full XP, even against bots, but that got canned when they attempted to eliminate bot farms from the mode. Thus this new playlist seems like the player base meeting them halfway, as per a Reddit comment. A different user labels this addition as the developers "making a mistake so hard, I had so much fun in the first couple of days, what prompted them to adjust it?"

Future Prospects: Adjustments Occur?

Should the development team has proven anything to date with the latest installment, it is that they're paying attention and responding to player input. Tasks being too difficult got fixed rapidly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, if their data indicates this recent mode is underperforming to their expectations, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
