A popular South African media personality and entertainer has been murdered in the country's largest city Johannesburg, causing national outrage across a country battling persistent crime.

Warrick Stock, widely recognized as DJ Warras, was gunned down in the downtown area on the afternoon of Tuesday.

Officials stated the 40-year-old entertainer was approached by a trio of assailants, one of whom shot at him before running away.

The reason behind the shooting has not been established and no arrests have been made, according to authorities.

The Fatal Incident

Police indicated that Stock was attacked as he was leaving a building in the vicinity of the city center landmark.

He had spent several hours at the building managing the implementation of safety equipment, which had been illegally inhabited by unknown people, as per local media.

"The report indicates the victim was confronted by three unidentified men after he parked his car, and they began shooting at him before escaping on foot," an official report said.

CCTV footage reportedly captured a suspect with dreadlocks and dressed in what appeared to be a security uniform firing shots on Stock before making his escape.

The DJ attempted to flee after he was wounded but collapsed on the opposite side of the road.

It was further revealed that Stock had an unused firearm and nothing was taken during the incident.

Crucial forensic evidence, like bullet casings, were found at the crime scene.

Authorities have requested members of the public who may have have information to contact them.

"We know they covered significant ground after the attack, and police have been following their trail to determine their whereabouts," added an official.

Outpouring of Grief

His sister, a close relative, expressed the family was struggling to come to terms with the loss.

"Words fail me. I don't have words," were her words.
"We know he was a representative for countless citizens. He was a fearless commentator about topics not many people were ready to tackle. This is a devastating blow."

She urged the community to refrain from sharing explicit content from the incident, saying this was an deeply traumatic time, particularly for Stock's children.

Stock was the presenter of Ngicel' iVisa, a series that premiered on a popular local digital satellite entertainment channel.

In addition to his work in broadcasting, Stock was engaged in various entrepreneurial pursuits, including private security, providing elite guarding services and securing prestigious gatherings across South Africa.

He was also said to be engaged in building administration and was involved in tenant removals.

A government minister commented he was furious and grief-stricken by Stock's untimely death.

"He was forthright without fear or favour. He even criticized me and my decisions as a minister. He was a true embodiment of who we should be," he stated.

A public representative commented the "shocking killing of DJ Warras in the middle of the day is a trauma for all South Africans".

A broadcasting director noted that "DJ Warras was far beyond a TV personality. He was a skilled narrator, a dedicated enthusiast of music and a warm soul who brought excitement and dynamism to every performance. His artistic passion left an lasting impression."

In a statement, the broadcaster he worked for declared Stock was known for his presence, kindness and quick humor, adding that his influence "will live on".
