Recent details have emerged concerning the untimely passing of renowned film director Rob Reiner and photographer Michele Singer Reiner, whose bodies were located at their Los Angeles home home on Sunday.
As detailed in an account referencing a person close to the family, a practitioner scheduled for an session first raised the alarm after not being able to enter the residence. The practitioner then contacted the couple's daughter, Romy Reiner, who lives close by.
Upon entering the residence, Romy found her father's body. It is said she then fled the house in anguish, unaware at that moment that her mother's body was also inside. A companion who had gone with her then dialed 911. Subsequently, first responders discovered Michele Singer Reiner's body.
Law enforcement have formally accused the couple's 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, with the charges of premeditated murder, as well as the charge related to a weapon, reportedly a knife. He is now in custody and denied bail.
The anonymous source also disputed several initial details. They said that while Romy Reiner informed first responders that her brother Nick lived in a guesthouse on the property, she did not point to him as a person of interest at that moment.
The source also disputed circulated claims that Rob and Michele Singer Reiner had been especially "worried" about Nick's behavior in the weeks leading up to the incident. Instead the family was "accustomed to working through [Nick's] problems together."
The statement also extends to descriptions of reportedly "unstable" behavior by Nick at a party thrown by Conan O'Brien the evening prior to the bodies were found. While the source said they were unable to confirm whether Rob had "scolded" his son at the party, they said that claims of a "major confrontation" between the two were untrue.
Per law enforcement sources, the medical examiner had not yet established as of Tuesday whether the Reiners died on Saturday evening or on Sunday. Some accounts indicated the state of their bodies suggested they had been deceased for a period of time.
Nick Reiner was taken into custody at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Sunday in the Exposition Park, roughly 15 miles from the scene. He was due to be arraigned on Tuesday, but his attorney, Alan Jackson, said his client had a medical issue and would not appear until no sooner than Wednesday.
