Citizens have gathered throughout the country to mark the second anniversary since the Hamas-initiated attack on October 7th, 2023, as talks advanced in Egypt over an end to the hostilities in the Gaza Strip.
The attack resulted in more than 1,200 people dead and 251 others captured away to Gaza as prisoners. It was the most deadliest day for Jewish people since the World War II.
Israel answered by initiating a defensive operation in Gaza which has claimed in excess of 67,000 people, as reported by the region's Hamas-controlled health ministry. Its figures are seen as reliable by the UN and other global organizations.
"Our aggressive opponents have hit us hard, but they have not overcome us," the leader added on that day.
He also promised to "accomplish all the goals of the war: the return of all the captured, the removal of the Hamas administration and the promise that Gaza will no longer present a risk to Israel".
The Israeli government postponed state commemorations until 16 October - after the completion of the Jewish High Holiday season - but gatherings still occurred across the country on Tuesday.
A memorial ceremony for the relatives of Israeli citizens who died in the Hamas attack was conducted in Tel Aviv. Organized by the families themselves, it was aired across Israeli broadcast stations.
Hours earlier, a moment of silence was observed across the country.
At the same time, Israeli and Hamas delegations convened in the Egyptian coastal city of Sharm el-Sheikh for a follow-up session of mediated discussions to examine the provisions of the proposal.
A high-ranking delegate involved in the negotiations revealed that an evening round of indirect talks started at evening in Egypt.
The source explained the morning session ended without significant progress, due to disagreements over the recommended Israeli retreat arrangements from Gaza and over safeguards Hamas wants to guarantee Israel does not recommence fighting after the initial stage of the agreement.
He added that the talks are "tough and have still not deliver any real breakthrough," but mentioned that mediators are making efforts to narrow the differences between the both parties.
In Tel Aviv's public square previously, 29-year-old a woman - whose family member survived the attack on the gathering, where 378 people were lost their lives and dozens more were abducted by Hamas gunmen - shared: "Nowhere appears as home now and until each abducted person come back not a single person will be secure."
"After we see everyone home again, we can feel relief anew. Then we can commence rebuild," she continued.
Near the leader's home in the capital, people assembled to demonstrate their solidarity for the families of the captives. Israel says nearly fifty remain in captivity in Gaza, 20 of whom are believed to be surviving.
Activist a participant stated: "We need do every compromise necessary for the captives to come back home. But we truly desire assurances that we will be safe."
Research now regularly indicate that approximately the majority of Israelis want the war to end in exchange for the release of the abducted.
At the site of the gathering, mourners gathered to remember the victims.
From there, the noise of military attacks and explosions could be detected just a short distance away in Gaza, where observers indicated the heavy Israeli shelling carried on.
In the urban center, air and artillery strikes were reported in the morning of that day in the west side district, area and zone neighbourhoods and in the eastern district of that sector, as well the camp to the northwestern area.
"When the night falls, the anxiety arrives with it," relocated urban resident a mother, whose 17-year-old son was lost his life by an Israeli bombing last year, shared.
"My family are terrified of the bombings. All the night we are resting together, clinging, especially my youngest child who rests his face on me the entire evening."
"Continuously we check the reports to see what happened. And I'm afraid that this truce will not be finalized and that the conflict will return to us."
Al-Shifa hospital in the urban area announced it had received the bodies of half dozen people by the daytime, including three who died in an Israeli bombing in the southern al-Sabra neighbourhood.
Nasser hospital in the south region of that area reported additional fatalities had been brought there. An individual was lost his life by Israeli troops while attempting to get assistance to the southern area, medics stated.
