Gus Atkinson added to England's injury problems after leaving the field during Saturday's play in the Melbourne Test versus the Australians.
The pace bowler felt a problem in his left leg immediately following a delivery of the fourth over at the MCG.
The touring camp stated Atkinson felt some "soreness" and required time off the field in order to be assessed "over the next few hours".
The series decider of the series at the SCG begins on Sunday, 4 January.
The visitors have previously lost fast bowlers one seamer to a knee injury and Jofra Archer because of a side injury during this series.
A replacement bowler was called up to provide backup.
His form was underwhelming early in the series, managing only a handful of scalps.
He was left out from the previous Test, then recalled for the Melbourne Test in the playing XI.
Atkinson showed better form in Melbourne, bagging two scalps with the ball, and scoring 28 runs as a batsman being one of only three teammates to reach double figures.
After bowling one over late on the first day, he returned for the second day's play and removed Scott Boland edging to the keeper.
Unfortunately, towards the conclusion of that over, he sent down a variation to the batsman and suddenly grabbed for his hamstring.
Atkinson returned to the side for the Boxing Day Test after being left out of the third.
