Adult Swim's Leading New Show of 2025 Gets a Significant Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.

Last October, the late-night programming block saw the return of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, not long after, the channel launched a brand-new animated series with a markedly softer tone. Haha, You Clowns was sweet and soothing, reminiscent of a animated take of a contemplative talk show. In an era often defined by dark humor, this show's sincerity found an audience and helped it become a surprise hit.

A Two-Season Greenlight

In mid-December, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two more seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to expand upon the story of the Campbell family. The series follows three well-mannered teenage brothers whose central trait is their profound affection for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four key characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the audience of the show who welcomed the series and shared it with others," remarked Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

Executive Acclaim

The official statement also included praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and uniquely eerie." He shouted out the fans who found the show and advocated for its peculiarly charming sensibility.

"All of you showed up for this new show, praised it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something surprisingly comfy about observing this lovable family go about their daily lives.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa expressed his goal to move the comedy genre beyond its prevailing layer of irony. He linked this trend to a broader media landscape.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we keep returning to,” said Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we just have to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”

What Comes Next

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa has the opportunity to be part of that comedic shift. Or at the very least, the renewal promises audiences additional episodes to bask in the heartfelt moments of the unique Campbell clan.

The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. All episodes is ready to watch on HBO Max.
